Narcotics Anonymous was founded in 1953 in California and has grown to over 70,000 meetings globally. The program follows a 12-step approach to recovery from drug addiction. NA meetings provide a supportive community for recovering addicts.

The 12 Steps of NA

Narcotics Anonymous (NA) is a 12-step program that helps individuals recovering from drug addiction. The 12 steps aim to guide members to accept their addiction, surrender to a higher power, make amends, and help others in recovery.

The 12 steps are:

  • Step 1: Admitting powerlessness over addiction and that life has become unmanageable.
  • Step 2: Come to believe that a Power greater than oneself can restore sanity.
  • Step 3: Making a decision to turn one’s will and life over to the care of God as we understand Him.
  • Step 4: Making a searching and fearless moral inventory of oneself.
  • Step 5: Admitting to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
  • Step 6: Being entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
  • Step 7: Humbly ask Him to remove our shortcomings.
  • Step 8: Make a list of all persons we have harmed and become willing to make amends to them all.
  • Step 9: Make direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when doing so would injure them or others.
  • Step 10: Continuing to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
  • Step 11: Seeking through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understand Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
  • Step 12: Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

NA meetings across Saint Louis provide a supportive community for members to work through the 12 steps. The program aims to motivate members toward positive change in recovery.
