New WFMH Regional Vice President for Europe (Last Updated On: ) New WFMH Regional Vice President for Europe Aart Jan Vrijlandt was confirmed as the Regional Vice President for Europe by the WFMH Executive Committee, following his election as President of Mental Health Europe (MHE) at that organizations annual meeting in Romania. Dr. Vrijlandt trained as a psychiatrist, group psychotherapist and family therapist, and is presently the Medical Director of the Spectrum Gelderland Oost Regional Psychiatric Hospital in Warnsveld, The Netherlands. He is a longstanding member of WFMH, and served as Honorary Secretary of MHE from 1994 to 1999. He has special interests in human rights, user representation, community services, and the reduction of the use of restraint in psychiatry. He was the coordinator of the Dutch inspection team for Leros (1989-95) during the European Unions Psychiatric Reform Program for Greece.
