Media/ICT
Convener: Elizabeth Carll – Tel: 631-754-2424, Email: [email protected]

As most people
think of media in terms of mass media such as the news media and Internet, information
and communication technologies (ICT) include a broader perspective of not only
the above but additional aspects such as distance learning and telehealth. However,
as many people may not be familiar with these definitions, prompted the use
of the above title. The focus of the working group would emphasize utilizing
the media/ICT to help communities recover in the wake of violence and disaster
and would include all forms of violence including interpersonal. In addition,
a second focus would involve working with the news media to help minimize secondary
traumatization through the depiction of violent images as well as strategies
as to how best to disseminate information concerning terrorism without creating
panic. Another focus for this working group would include taking up other topics
that would facilitate the work of existing working groups.
