More than 2,500 people demonstrated in the center of Madrid on 10 October to show solidarity with the mentally ill, to campaign for better care, and to protest the lack of adequate programs. The demonstration, using the slogan “Mental Health in Action,” was organized by FEMASAM (Federacion Madrilena Pro Salud Mental – Madrid Federation for Mental Health, a consortium of 17 associations in the Madrid area), together with the Spanish Association for Neuropsychiatry, the Madrid Association for Mental Health, and the Madrid Association for Psychosocial Rehabilitation. Carmen Diaz-Aranda Luque, the FEMASAM coordinator, sent the WFMH Secretariat news reports of the event and copies of the well-designed newsletters and information pamphlets produced to publicize the march through the city center.
