~1998 Conference of NGOs~
The scientific program included a section on “ContemporaryScience, Ethics and Human Rights” led by Dr. Georges B. Kutukdjian,Director of the Bioethics Unit of UNESCO. At a workshop on “Diffusion,Communication and Sharing of Knowledge” concern was expressed about the risksinvolved in developing a new type of elitism, which excludes people who donot benefit from or cannot understand scientific data. A session on”Eradication of Poverty” gave a striking view of the deprivations faced bymillions of people around the world who live on less than one US dollar a day.
