The 12 Steps of NA

Narcotics Anonymous (NA) is a nonprofit fellowship or society of recovering drug addicts whose primary purpose is to help addicts stop using drugs. NA outlines a 12-step plan to achieve and maintain sobriety:

  1. Admit powerlessness over addiction. Realize drugs have made life unmanageable.
  2. Believe a Power greater than oneself can restore sanity.
  3. Make decision to turn will and life over to God’s care.
  4. Make searching and fearless moral inventory of self.
  5. Admit to God and another human the wrongs found in that inventory.
  6. Become entirely ready to remove all these defects.
  7. Humbly ask God to remove shortcomings.
  8. Make list of all persons harmed and become willing to make amends.
  9. Make direct amends to such people whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
  10. Continue personal inventory and promptly admit when wrong.
  11. Seek through prayer and meditation to improve conscious contact with God.
  12. Carry message to other addicts and practice these principles in all affairs.

The NA 12-step program aims to motivate members to make positive life changes by relying on a higher power, taking personal responsibility, making amends, and helping others. The program intends to inspire hope and ongoing growth for recovering Oklahoma addicts.
