~WFMH/ANAMH Asia Pacific Regional Conference~

This conference, arranged by the Australian National Association for Mental Health as a 50th Anniversary event, will take place immediately after the Australia and New Zealand Mental Health Services conference in Hobart on 7-9 September. Earlier, on 6 September, both a Consumers’ Forum and a Carers’ Forum will be held. The successive meetings will provide a broad, week-long examination of mental health issues in the region and are expected to attract more than one thousand delegates.

The ANAMH conference, in which WFMH officers will participate, offers an Asia-Pacific and world perspective on the issues, as well a national/local viewpoint. WFMH President Marten deVries will attend, together with a contingent of Board members, and an Executive Committee meeting has been scheduled. The conference will be opened by Sir Guy Green, the Governor of Tasmania, who is the Patron of a number of Community Mental Health Organizations. On 9 September he will host a reception for the delegates at Government House.

The conference program on “Mental Health: A Wealth of Difference” will combine plenary sessions with up to four concurrent sessions. Arrangements have been supervised by Jeanette Sherrington, President of ANAMH, and Ian Munday, Chair of the Tasmania Association for Mental Health Organizing Committee. Mures Convention Management is in charge of registration and accommodation bookings, and can also provide information and bookings for pre- or post-conference touring in Tasmania.
