WFMH/IASP

World Mental Health Day

and
World Suicide Prevention Day

WFMH is extremely pleased to be entering into collaboration with the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) to jointly promote World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10) and World Mental Health Day (October 10). This collaboration will add to the impact and benefit of both of these global awareness days, and will increase the value that each of the days has in improving public awareness, reducing stigma and discrimination, and promoting service and policy advocacy to address the global impact that suicide associated with mental illnesses has on the global burden of disease.

About World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10)

Each year, the International Association for Suicide Prevention, in collaboration with the World Health Organization, uses this day to call attention to suicide as a leading cause of premature and preventable death. This year’s theme is “With understanding, new hope” and the focus is on translating current scientific knowledge and research about suicide behavior into practical programs and activities that can reduce suicidal behavior and save lives. All interested groups and individuals are invited to join with IASP on September 10 th to develop activities to enhance understanding about suicide and to demonstrate ways in which knowledge can be translated into effective suicide prevention programs.

To obtain more information on planning activities to commemorate World Suicide Prevention Day, contact IASP at [email protected] , or connect to their website at www.iasp.info.
